Attracting feeling bloody marvellous is easy

I was training a group of BNI members this week in how to give and get better quality referrals and during one of the exercises John, who manufactures components in plastic and steel, began to talk about “road studs”.

I pointed out that the term “road stud” is probably jargon and he might want to explain what it is. “Pretend I’m a 6 year old”, I said. (For the record it’s a fabricated steel plate that is “banged in the road” and a row of them form “markers” in the road.)

That was Monday.

The following day, I took some time and reorganised my desk a little (I think we call that “catching up with the admin”), and created a new pile of paperwork that will get addressed, in order and completely, this weekend. This pile was desperately in need of being kept in place and my desk stapler did the job. I remember thinking I need a paperweight at some point.

That was Tuesday.

This morning, I attended a BNI meeting and delivered an educational 60 seconds on changing people’s pictures of you to create more referrals. Dressed very casually in a bright striped shirt and jeans, rather than the normal and more formal suit or jacket, I pointed out that people will often “pigeon hole” others based on their perception of what they say they do.

If you say you’re an accountant, most people will have a picture in their mind of what an accountant looks like and what sort of business they are looking for. If you want to change people’s perceptions, change their pictures. The best way to do this, I said, is to have a 1:1 with the people you would like more referrals from and help them understand better what it is you do and want.

At the end of the meeting I won the door prize (a draw from all the referrals passed during the meeting). Wrapped in brown paper and in a fair sized box, I was more than intrigued by what the contents might be.

Following the meeting, I opened my prize whilst John and Brian discussed the fact that in some cultures it is seen as impolite to open a gift in front of the giver because you can never show enough gratitude “in the moment”. We agreed I would open it nevertheless as I pointed out that at some chapter meetings, the prize is actually opened at the time it is won.

I was amazed and delighted when, after unwrapping the brown paper and opening the box inside, I discovered a metal object, shiny and square shaped with a pointed “handle” coming from the underside.

Not only had I now seen and touched a “road stud”, I was now the proud of owner of my very own personal stud, and a new paperweight for the office!

That was Wednesday and the law of attraction working at its very best.

If you want to feel Bloody Marvellous, it’s simply a choice. When you decide you feel great, you attract feeling great. When people ask me how I am, I always respond:
Bloody Marvellous
That was the decision I made in the morning and I choose every day.

How do you want to feel?
